What does the Hudson Library & Historical Society collect?

The Hudson Library & Historical Society collects photographs, maps, papers, artifacts, and other primary source material that document the founding, history, and ongoing activities and functions of Hudson, Ohio.

Can I donate materials to the Hudson Library?

The Hudson Library & Historical Society has specific collecting criteria (see the donating page more information). If you feel that your material meets this criteria, contact us. Staff cannot accept donations without prior authorization from the archivist.

Can someone tell me the value of my historical materials?

No staff member, volunteer or board member shall offer appraisals of the monetary value of archival materials or objects to donors. To find an appraiser, you can consult the membership directories of the American Society of Appraisers, International Society of Appraisers or Appraisers Association of America.

Visiting and Research

How can I look at materials in the collection?

We strongly encourage researchers to make an appointment before visiting. Scheduling ahead allows our staff to gather materials, prepare the space, and ensure we can give you the best possible support during your visit.

Same-day appointments may be available depending on staff and material availability. If you’re hoping to visit on short notice, please call ahead—checking in first is always appreciated and helps us determine how we can accommodate you.

What kind of research services do you offer?

Archives staff are available to assist researchers on using and accessing the historical society collections. However, due to the high volume of requests and limited staff availability, staff is unable to perform in-depth research. Please contact us for more information about your research request.

Do I need permission to quote/cite material or use images from your collection?

In most cases, researchers must obtain advance permission from the library to publish and/or quote from any archival material in our holdings. Please contact us for more information.
